- Construction underway on a new 10 social homes in Torquay
- Part of Miles Government’s Homes for Queenslanders plan for 53,500 more social homes by 2046
- Stark contrast to LNP who sent social housing backwards by 428 homes, blocking Help to Buy legislation
Tradies are building 10 new social homes in Hervey Bay with the Miles Government delivering its Homes for Queenslanders plan.
Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon says homes like these are at risk under the LNP who cut social housing and will cut it again.
The Torquay project will feature 10 one-bedroom units suitable for single people and couples including seniors, young people and people with a disability.
Three of the units will be built to Platinum standard and two will be built to Gold standard under Liveable Housing Design guidelines, meaning they will be accessible for seniors and people who may have mobility needs.
Construction is being undertaken by Murphy Builders QLD and is forecast to be completed in early 2025, weather and construction conditions permitting.
These 10 homes are among the 53,500 social homes to be delivered by 2046 as part of the Homes for Queenslanders plan.
Quotes attributable to Member for Hervey Bay Adrian Tantari:
“Once these homes have been completed, they will provide safe, secure housing for people in need.
“They’re conveniently located to nearby local shops and services. These smaller one-bedroom units will also provide an opportunity for older people in our community to downsize, freeing up larger social homes for families.”
Quotes attributable to Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon:
“We’re pulling every lever possible to deliver mores home for people in need.
“Our Homes for Queenslanders plan is getting more shovels in the ground and tradies on the tools to build the homes Queenslanders need.
“The LNP have been out there suggesting Homes for Queenslanders is too much, so the question is what will they cut – will it be social homes like these in Hervey Bay?”
Quotes attributable to Murphy Builders Construction Manager Dominic Carmine:
“Murphy Builders appreciate the opportunity to work with QBuild to deliver this much needed Housing project for the community.
“QBuild and the design team have done a great job in documenting aesthetically pleasing units that carefully incorporate liveable housing design guidelines into consideration.
“The design makes the most out of the available land while still incorporating adequate communal and open spaces.”
