  • 25 new social homes unveiled in Gympie
  • First residents of new social homes to move in in the coming weeks
  • New social homes are among the 53,500 social homes being delivered as part of the Homes for Queenslanders plan

Works are complete on 14 new social homes while the finishing touches are underway on 11 new social homes in Gympie, with the first tenants to begin moving in over the coming weeks.

The homes consist of 11 two-bedroom factory-built modular homes at one location, and 10 one-bedroom units and four two-bedroom units at another.

The 11 modular homes were built in a factory by VOLO Constructions before being trucked to site.

The Miles government is building homes and delivering them to regional and remote communities across Queensland where they will become social housing and homes for government employees like teachers, nurses and police.

The new homes are another way the State Government is delivering on its Homes for Queenslanders target of 53,500 social homes by 2046.

Quotes attributable to Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon:

Our Homes for Queenslanders plan is getting more shovels in the ground and tradies on the tools to deliver our social housing Big Build.

“Not only do the LNP think our Homes for Queenslanders is too much, they’ve explicitly said modular homes are too much, so the question is what will they cut – will it be social homes like these?”

Quotes attributable to VOLO Modular general manager Chris Gunton:

“At VOLO, the team are very committed to supporting this program, and have ramped up capability to meet any demand thrown at the business.

“The strength of MMC is that both stages of the process – building the house and preparing the site – can run parallel, not like traditional methods of construction where one process follows the other.”

Quotes attributable to Murphy Builder spokesperson Dominic Carmine:

“The apartments are designed with accessibility at the forefront, ensuring comfort and independence for residents of all abilities.

“The build features wide living areas and level thresholds which facilitates easy movement within the apartments.”
